Introvert #5
$1/32 pages/Quarter size
by Nicole

Nicole is completely open and honest about the draining anxieties and fears that she deals with on a daily basis. She describes her emotional battle with food and her journey to feel feminine. This issue of Introvert may be triggering because it deals with subject matter such as  eating disorders, self-injury and anxieties. I think this was an excellent issue because Nicole wrote from her heart.

An excerpt. "My curves are wrong, wrong, wrong. I am now realizing 10 years later that this insecurity with my body may have been what sparked a couple years of serious gender confusion during high school."

by Celia

Celia loves autumn and I love autumn too. This issue of her zine causes me much excitement and I've learned quite a bit about a season I have always adored. She introduces the zine with a bit about Saint Martha of the Gentle Arts, a recipe for apple crostata and the use of apples during Halloween. Celia writes about serious traditions that remember loves ones who have passed on  plus more Halloween related pieces that are good for the soul!

Candace writes an emotional zine regarding her sexuality. She writes about the non-existent crushes for boys and the awkward feelings she had for certain girls as an adolescent. These emotions start swirling together with time and gradually Candace became more comfortable to come out and accept being who she always had been but she confesses that it is a continuous growth. A wonderful read!

An excerpt,"I label it dealt with. I label myself out and ok. I label myself queer or a lesbian or girl-loving or gay."

Candace's mini zine discusses things that make her happy as well as some nostalgic thoughts!
Ilse Content #6
$3/32 pages/Half size
by Alexis

With her typewriter Alexis embarks on an  expedition in which she converts some recent life experiences into another awesome zine. She publishes a text heavy letter that deals with sexual assault. It was something she chose to do after distributing the letter to her friends when the situation she was dealing with just felt out of control. She types,"happy endings are not for always, but at least sometimes..relief?" While dealing with death, media, and traveling; she successfully leaves the reader with words of hope and issues to mull over.

An excerpt,"I try so hard to love and change, even in my sleep. everyone takes up space, i guess it just depends on what you plan to build."

by Karen

Karen's introductions states, "This is a true story. This zine contains actual transcripts of e-mails between my male-to-female friend, Andrea, and I." The e-mails that the two friends exchange discuss Karen's partner Dave who is a male-to-female pre-op transsexual. Karen begins to question her own sexuality and break through the many labels that are laid out for her and her partner.

An excerpt,"i can see how TS's might feel as if they are banging their head against a brick wall, trying to get people to understand what they are going through. i have relatively clear, non-judgmental perception, and even i am having trouble comprehending all of this."

I was excited to dig into this new issue of giantess. Inside issue #8 you will find a queer young adult fiction piece that Candace wrote. It is titled 'powerlines' and tells the story of Audrey, a girl who recently came out to her father and her best friend Jaz (who has also come out). Audrey shares intimate moments with her best friend & opens up to her father. Candace also includes fantastic photos of gorgeous Blythe doll and describes her thoughts about about writing.

Candace describes the included mini as : "a mini zine about friends, eavesdropping on public transport and other fluffy things."

"endless stories of your summers. of your mosquitos and porches. and here we are. face to face. and all i want to do is make out with your train tracks. the wooden floors there are made of down. the heat is so hot that it's sexy."

I enjoyed the variety of emotions that Nicole shared. This issue of Introvert consists of her summer road trip down to the south and off to the midwest, self destruction, escape, honesty and love that a girl has for a boy.

by Hannah

As usual Hannah's writing has me mouthing, "wow" as I read the final page. I admire the girl who writes that yes she has been raped but she still desires sex on a rough level. She makes it quite clear that her desires to be spanked and dominated will only happen with a partner who is respectful and who she has a high comfort level with. Hannah discusses her various medications and how they help control her OCD and depression. She also expresses the positive impact that Lydia Lynch's art has on her creations and her thoughts. An excerpt, "I felt the need to dominate when everywhere else in my life I was in fight or flight. i wanna wretch when I think of physically or emotionally hurting another human being." There are topics in this issue deal with rage, explicit sexual description, and mental health issues so please keep that mind.
Jesus Crispies #1
$2/12 pages/Half size
by Ali

The first thing I want to say is that if you don't have a sense of humor then you may not want to purchase this zine. I personally laughed out loud as I read Ali's religious rants. She grew up in a community of Southern Baptists and I can understand her ranting since I grew up in Georgia. Her illustrations and sarcastic captions of "evil" signs was definitely entertaining.

An excerpt, "I would have liked church better if Jesus had laser vision."

I Dreamed I Was Assertive #11
November 2007
$2.50/24 pages/Half Legal size
by Celia

Celia is a beautiful writer and I love to read about her daily adventures. This issue is all handwritten and some topics that she writes about include a few great little sketches. Celia writes about her obsession with Alice B. Toklas and includes some facts about her as well as pieces/recipes from The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook. In closing, Celia discusses the trip she took to Miami to go through her father's personal belongings after his death.

An excerpt, "I thought that by going through my father's things I'd glean something new about him.Maybe I would discover who he truly was, this person who always kept us at a distance. But instead, I think I came out feeling more confused and unsure of who he was."
